Southern Lord: Resurrection is a high-quality sampler of extreme metal artists on the Southern Lord label. The artists and song selections are top notch. And, at over seventy minutes, you get a generous helping of heavy, heavy metal. On top of all that, it's a free download. Get it.

Good god this is some soul-crushingly heavy stuff! Southern Lord has become the gathering place for the best new doom metal and stoner rock bands, and this free label sampler offers a great assortment of their heaviest offerings. The bands range from the more death metal sounding Wolves in the Throne Room to the experimental Sun O))) to the classic doom of Wino, but the underlying theme is sheer heaviness.
I think this sampler is ideal for fans of Black Sabbath and later disciples Cathedral, Solitude Aeternus and the like who want to discover the next generation of doom metal and stoner rock. If you're not familiar with the genre and are just trying it because the sampler is free (which I totally encourage), these bands may be too heavy for casual rock/metal fans.
